Trio Motion Technology’s range of motion controllers, daughter boards, Expansion Modules, I/O modules and keypads are designed to enable the control of industrial machines with the minimum of external components. In many applications, Trio’s range can be combined to build a control system capable of driving a multi axis machine and all its auxiliary equipment.
The Motion Coordinator system allows you to control up to 64 servo or stepper motors with Digital I/O and additional equipment such as keypads and displays all controlled from a single master. Systems may be used with a stand alone program or alternatively commands can be sent from an external computer. The Motion Coordinator system is extremely modular, allowing the user to tailor the controller to their specific needs, this also allows the flexibility to incorporate new modules if the need should change, making the system “future proof”.

All Motion Coordinators, whether PCI, panel mount, rack mount, DIN rail mount or a custom design format, incorporate a CANbus interface to allow for digital or analogue I/O expansion with Trio’s I/O modules. Special I/O requirements can also be accommodated using the CANopen protocol to control third party I/O modules. Trio’s range of operator interface units provide a robust and functional HMI using the Trio fibre-optic network system. Third party HMI products, touchscreens etc., can communicate to the Motion Coordinator via the Modbus RTU serial protocol.
System Building
Motion Coordinators, daughter boards, axis expanders and I/O modules may be mixed within the system rules:
- Every system must start with one Motion Coordinator master unit as this contains the processor and main communication ports.
- The MC224 master unit can house up to 4 daughter boards. The Euro205x and MC206X each have up to 4 axes built-in and will additionally accept a single daughter board. These can be of any type.
- The MC224 can have up to 3 axis expander modules added to house up to 16 daughter boards. 4 being housed in the master and 4 in each of the axis.
- Digital drive daughter boards can be placed in the MC224 master, which enable the MC224 to control up to 24 axes via SERCOS, SLM or CANopen DS402.
- Up to 16 CAN 16-I/O and 4 CAN 8 Analogue Input modules can be connected to any Motion Coordinator. Alternatively, up to 128 inputs and 128 outputs can be controlled using the DS401 CANopen protocol.
